Monday,
August 7th we were up early and took a short ride to the
familiar McDonalds for a hot breakfast to carry us
through the morning and who knows how much later. The trolleybus left the
hotel at 8am for the center of Old Quebec City, just adjacent to Chateau
Frontenac where we started our
beautiful St. Lawrence River including I'sle d'Orleans. The promenade is very
wide and many activities take place here including part
We continued our walk on the promenade beneath the walls of La Citadelle
to Battlefield Park and into the Citadel for the ceremonious
changing of the guard taking place at 10am.
This is the official residence of the governor-general in French Canada
and was the site of 17th century French defenses.
The ceremony was very dignified with pomp and flair and the band
provided the majestic air with it's military marches.
We walked on past old weathered canons in
the field to the St. Louis Gate and to the old narrow streets of the city. No
complaints from Dan and Tim who have already done a lot of walking this morning.
The sun was bright with a clear sky and the air was warm because of a heat wave
with temps reaching 90 degrees. The day started well and we had a lot more
walking to do......
