The Basse-Ville or Lower
Town of Quebec is
accessed on this street Cote de la Montagne which runs from the Haute-Ville or
Upper Town to Basse-Ville.
Or you can take the Breakneck Stairs as
they are called, and for good reason because of the long and steep stairway.
This is the more popular walkway to Basse-Ville and it is lined with tables and
people snacking at the many eateries on it's sides.
A horse drawn trolley is a popular tourist
novelty for touring the old quarters. In the background, French architecture is
dominant in these homes and shops along Boulevard Champlain.
The views are awesome from down here.
Looking up at Chateau Frontenac is reminiscent of a medieval castle up on the
highest point around. The warm charm of the old architecture makes you think
you're traveling in Europe and will bring out the romance in everyone.
A walkway near
Place Royale, a center and sometime stage for musical groups and celebrations.
The portal leads to Boulevard Champlain and the ferry to Levis across the St
Lawrence River.
This is another
view of the similar picture above taken with the sun brightly shining. Having been on our feet all day with much walking from one end of Old Quebec to
the other we decided it was time to find a place for dinner and relax for the
rest of the day. We caught the trolleybus back to the Holiday Inn and relaxed
for awhile and gave our feet a break. Later we would find a Marie Antoinette
restaurant which is a large chain in Canada, and where you can expect a
familiar meal similar to Friendly's in New England. Tuesday will be
another day and the hot temperatures will be with us again.
